NOTCH vs HOLE PUNCH vs SLIDER | EXPLAINED | MODEL COMPARISON

Hi guys,
Today we are going to talk about different types of notches and look into the devices which were provided by them.

There are three types of notches in the mobile industry till date not including sub types:

This latest generation of Android smartphones has evolved smartphone notch. Many phones have implemented water drop notch, others have moved to hole punch notch and some phones have come out with a mechanical slider or a contextual camera of a certain type -pop up camera. Let's take a look at the different practice for notch available today and discuss the best way to proceed.

Hole Punch Notch

When you remember your days at school, you will remember that you must prepare many documents to classify them in your files. For this, you must use the hole puncher that would make three holes in the side of your paper. The hole in the upper corner of the paper is very similar to the appearance of the hole in which the selfie camera is located. This is where the name "Hole punch notch" comes from.

By moving the selfie camera to a hole in a recess of the screen, the screen is held at four angles and pushed simultaneously to the absolute edges of the phone. This is one of the most popular notches in the new flagship phones in 2019.

The notch in the hole may be small enough to be placed in the status bar without any real intrusion. Although cutting a hole in the screen can shorten the life of the screen, the Honor View20 retains the structure and strength of the screen using an 18-layer pattern.

Classic notches

The classic notch appeared for the first time in the Essential phone and was quickly acquired by other manufacturers. This notch style usually includes the selfie camera, the top speaker, the sensors and perhaps an additional camera. At first, this style of guts was ridiculed as a ridiculous idea. The Pixel 3 XL is the one that has more strength, like a phone with one of the ugliest and most unpleasant hacks we've ever seen. Although this is the oldest design in the category, it still seems to be the number of current phones, such as the LG V50 ThinQ.

The next style of the notch has undergone a slight evolution, often in the form of a drop of water. It is a similar concept, but much smaller and less intrusive. Some of the most popular phones with water drop notch are as follows - the OnePlus 6T, the Realme 2 Pro, the Xiaomi Mi 9 and some devices of the Samsung Galaxy A and M series.

The classic notch or water drop notch is a simple way to give you more screen space while maintaining the structural integrity of your screen. This often costs you because the notch is intrusive and often leads to an ugly design. This obsolete design is the most common notch style on today's Android phones.

Slider Notches

The "notch" of the slider can be a mechanical or motorized function. This means that with some phones you can take out the camera, while others use a motor that slides the "notch" hidden in front of you.

Depending on the design of this type of notch, it can take the form of a small contextual camera or the back of the phone can slide to reveal the sensors.

The slider has the advantage that the camera is completely hidden and provides a complete picture of your screen. There are no recesses or obstacles as seen in other niches. The slider and the pop-up design pose the problem of additional moving parts in your phone, but this does not have to be a big drawback. This type of design makes sense, but is it the kind of category that manufacturers should have in the future?

With these three different notch options, what is the best style for future Android phones? Tell us in the comment what you think about this topic.

NOTE: A FUTURE WITHOUT NOTCH!!!
