A FUTURE WITHOUT NOTCH | UPCOMING DEVICES WITHOUT NOTCH | IN DISPLAY NOTCH

Xiaomi recently unveiled the built-in camera technology that successfully hides the front camera. Xiaomi explains how this technology works in a recent publication of social media.

On-screen Xiaomi camera technology

Xiaomi uses a custom-made transparent screen to hide the front camera ,When the camera is not in use, it may be hidden under the screen.

Xiaomi can install larger sensors on the front of the camera with this technology.
Just a few days ago, Xiaomi came up with a solution that all smartphone manufacturers have been looking for for years: create a real screen without a full-screen telescope. No, Xiaomi has not developed any other crazy motorized camera solution to achieve this. This time it's the back: like other sensors, the camera is really under the screen and the phone makes a continuous screen without a motorized camera.

In a short test video, Xiaomi showed the concept in reality by comparing a conceptual device with on-screen camera technology with the classic Xiaomi Mi 9 notch. but completely hides the camera when the screen is turned on. This setup offers a clear full-screen display without motorized solutions.

Since the release of this video, many people wonder how the technology works and whether the concept presented in the video is feasible or not. As always, Xiaomi has an answer that explains the technology of the camera on the screen. Vice President Xiaomi Wang Xiang has recently posted slides on Twitter explaining the technology of the camera on the screen.

Although Xiaomi did not give many details, the basic technology was explained very clearly. In short, Xiaomi uses a custom screen that has been developed with a small transparent panel on top, just above the camera's sensor. The transparent area is made with a glass with a low reflection and high transmission. Under normal circumstances, the area displays the content on the screen as a normal screen and the camera is hidden.

When you need the front camera, the top screen becomes transparent, allowing the light to flow through the glass and into the camera sensor. Xiaomi says that because the camera is under the screen, you can use larger camera sensors to get better photo quality with the front camera. Until now, the size of the front camera sensor was limited due to the size of the notch, which was small in most cases. When the screen is off, the camera sensor is hidden regardless of size.

From now on the technology only exists in the concept devices and Xiaomi says it will take some time before a real smartphone with this technology is seen. Oppo has also demonstrated the same technology in a prototype device. After the history of different technologies, Xiaomi and Oppo were able to offer a commercial smartphone with this technology this year. And if that happens, we can say goodbye to the large screens that have been entering smartphones since 2017.
