DeepMind's AlphaStar AI will play Blind StarCraft II against normal human players

Unfortunately, players don't know when they will play against AlphaStar.

AlphaStar AI from DeepMind to play StarCraft II blind games against normal human players
AlphaStar will only be available to play against Europe.

STRENGTHS

  • AlphaStar only plays 1-on-1 matches against human players
  • The competition and the points earned remain identical to normal fights.
  • The performance of AlphaStar will be revealed in a research paper.

AlphaStar, an artificial intelligence created by DeepMind, owned by Google, which plays StarCraft II, recently played its muscles of the game by destroying absolutely two professional human players in the strategy game. For those who think they can do better than the two defeated players of Team Liquid against AlphaStar, they now have the opportunity to try it. Blizzard gives players the chance to play DeepMind AI in blind games to prove themselves. The initiative was launched as part of an ongoing research by DeepMind, which will evaluate the performance of AlphaStar for scientific purposes.

In an official blog, Blizzard announced that AlphaStar would play a series of one-on-one games in a blind test in Europe against human players. StarCraft II players who want to stab at AlphaStar can press the "DeepMind Opt-in" button in the 1v1 Versus menu to try their luck and face the AI. However, players will not know if they are playing against AlphaStar or a human opponent. The reason behind this is to evaluate the performance of AI in relation to the general behavior of ordinary players.

Experimental versions of AlphaStar face players according to the usual rules of the game, but DeepMind has not revealed the frequency with which players play against artificial intelligence. The goal is to ensure anonymity so that the StarCraft II player's choices and overall game strategy do not change when they discover that they are playing against AI.

AlphaStar will play as a member of the Terran, Zerg or Protoss races of the game and will only be tested with StarCraft II players in Europe. All rules are normal, both in the game and in victory points, and players will not earn extra rewards if they beat AlphaStar.

Damn, they won't even know they've defeated the artificial intelligence expert, who easily defeated two professional players from one of the best sports teams in the world. Meanwhile, DeepMind will publish AlphaStar's performance statistics in blind games against players in a peer-reviewed scientific article at the end of the test.
